Linspire, previously known as LindowsOS, is a commercial operating system based on Debian GNU/Linux, then later Ubuntu[1] .Microsoft v. Lindows.com, Inc. was a court case brought by Microsoft against Lindows, Inc, claiming that the name “Lindows” was a violation of its trademark “Windows.” Linspire is published by Linspire, Inc. and is focused on ease-of-use for the average person, rather than catering to niche or advanced needs.

As of 2007-10-10, the most recent stable release of Linspire is version 6.0 which was released in October 2007.[2] Linspire is available to download and costs US$ 50.
On July 1, 2008, Linspire stockholders elected to change the company’s name to Digital Cornerstone,[3] and all assets were acquired by Xandros.[4]
